Automation and Artificial Intelligence

IMMIX is differentiated by all other competitor devices in that our infusion pump heavily incorporates automation and artificial intelligence. FDA has identified human factors asa major source of medication errors associated with infusion devices.

Current Process

Currently there are multiple steps the end user has to go through to start an infusion, all of which are potential steps for errors:

1. Receive medication bag.

2. Scan medication bag into computer/electronic medical records.

3. Spike the medication bag with pump tubing.

4. Prime and deair pump tubing.

5. Plug in pump tubing into infusion device.

6. Program the device:

  • Go to medication library.

  • Find the correct medication.

  • Select correct medication.

  • Punch in medication bag concentration.

  • Punch in infusion rate(dose).

  • Punch in total volume to be infused.

7. Connect distal infusion tubing to patient’s IV port.

8. Start infusion.

9. Repeat all above steps for additional infusions.

IMMIX Solution

With IMMIX the end user will:

1. Receive medication cartridge.

2. Plug in medication cartridge.

3. Connect pump tubing to pump and patient. The pump will automatically prime and deair.

4. Start infusion.

IMMIX would automatically recognize the medication, its concentration and infusion rate ordered by physician. The pump will also automatically prime infusion tubing.

During an infusion if air is detected in the tubing, IMMIX will automatically deair and continue infusion without the user even being aware. With current devices air in line would lead to an alarm and a pause in infusion, which can sometimes be life threatening. The user would need to disconnect the tubing, deair, connect the tubing back into the device and restart the infusion. This process can take minutes.

The Future of Infusion Therapy

IMMIX represents a paradigm shift in medical device design, where artificial intelligence and automation work together to eliminate human error and improve patient outcomes.
